St

Ministries

Acolytes – The acolytes’ main responsibilities are to assist the priest during the celebration of the Eucharist. They perform ceremonial duties such as lighting candles and the ministering of the water and wine to the priest at Mass.

Altar GroupMembers of the altar group meet each Saturday to prepare the church and to set up for the weekend Masses.  This includes washing the sacred vessels, replenishing the candle supply and maintaining the holy water fonts. A member of the altar group launders the altar cloths and other sacred cloths used in the celebration of the Eucharist.

Altar Servers - An altar server attends to supporting tasks at the altar such as fetching and carrying or ringing the altar bells. Traditionally at St Brendan’s this job is given to school aged children both male and female who have made their First Holy Communion and have reached Grade 4.

Church Cleaning – Cleaning of the church is carried out on Saturdays. Duties include cleaning, dusting and mopping church entrances.

CountersOn Sunday morning after the celebration of the Eucharist the counters count the money that has been collected during the weekend Masses.

Children’s Liturgy –Children’s Liturgy refers to the practice of children leaving the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word and gathering elsewhere to celebrate a separate Liturgy of the Word that is more appropriate to their level of understanding. Members of the parish take on the role of facilitator during the Children’s Liturgy.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion – These ministers assist the priest in distributing Holy Communion to the parishioners gathered at the Mass.  Their role is one of service to the community during the Mass. A number of ministers also distribute the Eucharist to parishioners at home and in our local Nursing homes.

Readers – The readers are responsible for proclaiming the word of God from the New and Old Testament to the gathered assembly.

Catechists – Serving our catholic families in our public schools- Annandale North, Annandale and Stanmore primary schools.
